Emotional Support After a Serious Injury or Surgery

Whether recovering from a planned surgery or a serious accident, you or a loved one can benefit from regular companionship calls from a compassionate person at Advanced Homecare Assistance.

Companionship Promotes Mental Wellness

In the wake of a serious injury or a debilitating surgery, a wide range of feelings can bubble to the surface, leaving people feeling angry, lonely, or sad. Our companion callers are trained listeners who take the time to create a safe space to allow our clients to express their difficult feelings in a non-judgemental environment. Just as there is a physical aftermath when someone sustains a serious injury, there is often a psychological and emotional toll. Companion calls can help.

You or your loved one will be carefully matched with a companion. Regular call times, with a consistent companion, will be established. We provide phone calls at the frequency requested by each individual, with a minimum of once per week, all the way up to twice daily. We record each phone call and have access to notes from previous calls, which enables our companion callers to ask thoughtful questions and ensures the quality of care. After an accident or injury, feelings of unfairness, regret, and anger can be difficult to manage, especially if they are never expressed. Let Advanced Homecare Assistance provide a sounding board to help reduce anxiety and release concerns in a safe place. Our Companion Call service is a valuable tool to maintain and improve your mental wellness.

Regular Reminders or Daily Check Ins

Recovering from a serious injury or even surgery can feel overwhelming. Because recovery can take time, it can be hard to be patient. Although someone may want to get back to their pre-injury life, in their frustration and impatience they may actually delay the healing process by not completing their physical therapy home exercises, skipping appointments, and ignoring their medications.

Our Companion Call service provides people with both an understanding companion and an accountability partner. Just knowing someone will be in contact on a regular basis increases the likelihood that an individual will actually perform the tasks that are important to their recovery. Companion calls also reduce feelings of isolation and hopelessness that tend to overwhelm during a long, arduous recovery period. Consider contacting your HSA, FSA, or HRA provider to find out if our wellness calls constitute qualifying health care expenses.
